Hey Guys,
Looking to start an eCommerce business, selling a (pretty boring) product that is absolutely vital to homeowners. I see a huge monthly search demand, and the current eCommerce sites that sell the product are quite horrible (no dominant player, terrible design, user experience, horribly marketed and down right sketchy looking). The main product is a Canadian/US manufactured product, widely recognized brand, that is what I am going to anchor sales on. Eventually I want to buy from a white-labelled manufacturer and stick my brand on it to sell for a slightly higher margin
I have a solid web designer, and have great search engine marketing prowess, but I have never had to deal with suppliers, inventory, shipping and just fulling online orders.
Current strategy:
-Will build the site using Wordpress+Woocommerce
-Will test the market first, hoping to get my first sale 2 weeks from today, and buy from a local retail store and ship to the first few orders (probably at a loss) before buying bulk inventory or dropping a lot of money into online marketing
-to start I will house inventory at my home, fullfill orders at night (have commitments during the day)
-will ship the product via Canada Post
-will dominate search engines before considering any other forms of marketing
-looking to make this a very minimal time commitment on a week-to-week basis (maybe around 15 hours), so eventually looking for automation whereever possible
Was wondering if you guys had any tips, advice or links to articles/guides that could help me out? Any eCommerce progress threads you would recommend? Anyone successfully done this here? I know I am going to need serious guidance in terms of inventory, shipping, finding suppliers, fullfilling orders etc.
