Quick context, I initially took evening classes at truck driving school and grabbed my CDL for the purpose of being able to drive vacuum trucks. The goal was to get into cleaning grease traps which then transitioned into wanting to clean septic tanks and figuring out that getting into those two industries is difficult. Not so much about money, yes there's large capital allocation needed upfront for the trucks, but moreso actually starting the business, getting the proper licensing and permitting. It is not clear at all...
So I ended up eventually falling into dog waste removal.
That's where "Software Engineer 'til Noon, Pooper Scooper Thereafter" comes in. I'm working my job full-time and afterwards scooping up poop after.
This will be a thread about my progress though I don't know how often I will actually update it or be on the forum.
I didn't want to do another tech related business and I didn't have the time needed to go buy a business.
I had some specific requirements:
- Something nobody really wants to do
- Something dirty
- Something I guess that's "looked down upon?" or "that works?"
- Something not directly tech related e.g. SAAS or fintech
And something where I can incorporate my existing tech skills to improve my service business.
Did you know a lot of local service businesses suck?
- No GBP
- No website
- No picking up the phone
- No communication with customers
- No English speakers
The bar is so low when it comes to customer service, it's ridiculous.
Anyways, I've always been saying that I'd start something over the years but I never really went through with anything.
I'm finally taking action and my neighbors find value in it! It feels good.
