This used to happen to me a lot as well. The feeling of a presence wasn't as much as is it is with other people because I always kept my eyes close to avoid scaring myself and would just remind myself that they don't really exist (whatever they may be, aliens, the devil, home invaders that murder you in your sleep... they ALL don't exist!).

My advice is DON'T sleep face up. For me, I believe I probably have sleep apnea and that's what causes it for me, I think. That's why I always sleep on my side and never face up. Also I don't eat any meat 5hrs or so prior to sleeping. That always causes me to dream crazier shit and if I wake up paralyzed it will just add to the trip. I haven't had an episode in years since I seized sleeping on my back.
