Using Apple's historical prices in Yahoo Finance as an example. Seems that they are not showing what the stock price was prior to the split in the dates before the split?

For instance, the Apple's price was hovering near $500 just prior to the 4 to 1 split last August 31, 2020.

Yet, if you go back to what the stock price was on August 28, 2020 it says it was $126. Similar to what the price was after the 4 to 1 split? Why don't they just show what the stock price was prior to the split on August 28, 2020?

Am I missing something here in my understanding all this? Thanks.

Because it was at 4 x $126 = $504 so the price is correct. You can figure out the price just by dividing by the split amount.

The stock charts are showing price per current share

What's the reasoning behind it? Thanks.

What would you have the charts do? Spike up to 500 and drop to 125 in a day? The chart wouldn’t make any sense.
