Self education vs paid programs

Many successful entrepreneurs often say: Invest in yourelf! Usually that means dedication money into expensive courses to learn high-value-skills.

But in todays world, where Youtube videos, free PDFs, public library, google search and even AI tools like ChatGpt are widely available, I´m wondering:

Is it realy neccessary to put tousends to aquire new skills or can most of it be self-taught for free?

Have anyone of you found that paid education gave you something you couldn´t have figured out yourself with time, discipline and smart searching?

I´m trying to understand:

- Where paid education truly adds value
- And where self learning is just as powerful or even better
