I have a dispute with a CPA who is the tax advisor for a private equity placement that I invested in. The entity, a C-corp, has issued me a K1 with the ownership listed as 'MyCustodian FBO My Name" (appropriate) but MY TIN is listed as the owner's TIN. I believe that the custodian's TIN should be on the K1, because I am not supposed to put the profit or loss on my own tax return. The CPA is not even advocating that I show it as nominee income, just that it should be on my tax return.
I would appreciate any input, especially with creditable references.
Thanks in advance!
