Maybe you know the site gofundme.com
Those who receive the most money are usually people that have to pay for surgery or other serious matters but this site also helps startups and people with dreams/ideas.
What if you have a brilliant commercial idea that might appeal to many people and they are willing to invest in your project because you are willing to grant them free entry or lower prices when the time has come? Those are not donations for the common good, those are donations for commercial interests, even though you give your "investors" a discount as soon as you've put your plan into action, right?
So, if you're still a student, you are not the CEO of a company raising millions from huge investors but you are a private person getting money from other private persons. Let's say, your idea is so convincing that people invest $100k in your project and it all goes to your bank account. How much tax will you have to pay? Is it okay if you receive donations on your private bank account if you have commercial interests or do you have to register a business name and get an extra bank account?

"INSANE QUALITY OF PEOPLE"
"The number of high quality people I've met from this forum has been insane. All of it predicated on building real value."— User Richard Peck
"You are the average of the five people you surround yourself with."
Are you surrounding yourself with success?
