Price to earnings for valuing a website

So there is a website that I want to acquire, they are a competitor and in ways have an advantage over me so I want to just buy them. I contacted them and they may sell, I don't think they were expecting someone to ask. What kind of price-to-earnings ratio would a website sell for, just a general rule of thumb will work. I was thinking 24 months. It is a content based site, ad revenue. What is big for me is they have decent traffic numbers, a lot of members already, and an email list. Just looking for some suggestions.
