Can you please explain what you mean by a "chatbox" for the dense ones here? :bgh:

It'd be like a perpetual Instant Message box to chat with other online users

Okay, cool -- that's what I thought.

A long, long time ago, when the forums first started, I would have really pushed for this.

Now? Not so much. I certainly wouldn't have a problem with such a feature, but there have been so many times where I've gone back to look at old posts. I don't think that can be done with an IM system.

I said no because of what Yanks mentioned.

Plus - - - it is a time waster. If you need to know something, search it.
If you want to write something... write it for the world to read (not just who ever happens to be in the chat at that moment).

Earth... yes that is specific
I voted not sure because either would be fine. Fr those active on here the posts come back pretty quick anyway. For new people looking for answers it would probably be a limiter to PMs but a FAQ page would be also.

I wouldn't use it, email and the forum work just fine.

But, as humans, people are always looking for more of a connection. Anyone could grab a Ustream account and hold small meetings or whatever.

Also, someone recommended for MJ to do podcasts. I would not only take that super seriously, but take it a step further once the book is done. Do some video. People absolutely friggin LOVE to put a face and a voice with a name, product, a brand! Sells itself with the right physiology. ;)

Agree wholeheartedly ... video to conversion is as gasoline is to fire.

From a traffic retention perspective, I really like the idea. The more interconnected a group becomes, the more "loyalty" is there.

From a user perspective, I suppose it depends on what mood I'm in. Generally during the day I'm in a frenzied "must learn as much as I can as fast as I can" mode, but at night I get more chatty. Is it a time waster? Maybe, but I don't watch a lot of TV, and when I do waste time- I come here. ... You'd be surprised at some of the conversations I've had while playing online poker with other people from this forum.

Back to what you said earlier MJ, about wanting to wait until the book was completed to consider doing podcasts...I think a large part of the success of this site was that you (and others) were approachable. I actually think if you launched a podcast sooner than later you'd have as much if not more of a following- mainly because it would give you time to build trust with your listeners. Once they know you, they'll like you and you'll convert them into not only fans but customers. ...Just my .02...I guess that makes .03 now. :)
