Felt like ranting. Maybe I'm a Karen, but here it goes..
A new burger restaurant opened in my town and their food looked quite good (albeit QUITE expensive). In saying that, I know how being an entrepreneur works, and figured I'd check it out next time.
Here's where my issue starts: they requested to follow me on social media. Me— as an entrepreneur—welcomed their follow and returned the favour. I went a step further and liked all their posts and put the wheels in motion to tell my family about them and bring them over.
The next day, I seen they posted and I visited their page to share it. That's when I seen they employed the classic "Follow, get a follow back and unfollow" scheme— a desperate and humiliating method of showing people "we're important, look! More people follow us than we follow, we must be popular, huh?".
It's not hard to imagine that I now have zero plans to visit their overly expensive burger joint in the near future.
It's likely I took it too seriously, but I can't stand small businesses that try operate like some large conglomerate.
Nobody cares if you have 400 followers and follow 4,000 people.
You're not McDonalds. You're not GymShark.
I've seen individuals try pull this crap with me before, and I ensure I unfollow them as soon as I notice.
I'm not a fan, you're not a celebrity.
