Hi Fastlaners! Sorry for my English, I'm not a native so bear with me. I wanted to share a quick experience I have had earlier this day. Today afternoon I was talking to a businessman, who was a famous member of the forum but got deleted, over Skype and he said look for needs, go to business owners and ask what their needs are because -his exact words- "otherwise, your just locked in the closet of your own mind, and add zero value to the world. a sad place to stay"
Fast forward a few hours later I was talking to a acquaintance of my father over some paperwork stuff and I was gonna hung up the phone but the guy asked how I was doing, etc. And although this guy is a super busy dude, he enjoys our conversations, so do I. Anyways we started chatting about my life and his life, business etc. He started to talk about his business, his b2b things, how there is a lot going on these days etc.
Then, he started to tell about how he outworked his competitions, how he provides valuable service etc. Of course he didn't talk like "I'm creating value, I'm cool", he just told me what he is doing and that's exactly what he was doing. He was providing a valuable service, meeting the every need of the customer's he can, etc. He is the perfect example of a hustler and a hard/smart working man we read and talk about here. And he talked about how there are needs everywhere in that certain market, how qualified guys quickly double-triple their salaries just by working hard and then other firms get them to work themselves for more money, how the market is just started to grow and this is not a balloon, it's gonna keep growing (which are true because of the current political situation of my country) etc.
Then he said "you gotta get some sort of internship or something, I can even introduce you to sales manager of one of the growing firms" and I was like "WTF?!" -I didn't say that out loud of course- but holy s^+t you know? I was always kind to this guy and this guy is a really good man, helps people out, never cheats etc. And now he offers me this, even better tells me about a growing market that is full of needs that are waiting to be met.
Of course I got the names of the firms and checked them out, none of them was looking for interns. A few months ago I would say, "Yeah, I did what I could, so anyways let's watch Vikings." But now I will do due diligence like a mf and find my way in to one of those firms. If I can't find, I will make my way. Either way I'm gonna get an internship and take it from there. On my way I will study salesmanship, persuasion and every other skill I could possibly need.
It's already too long, but here is the tl;dr: We always hear the big guys talking about how there are some businessmen dying to talk about their biz and the needs, now I experienced it first hand and yes these guys are right. When I opened up the phone I would never expect something like this, but here it is. So, you listen to people and you never interrupt. Let them talk. They will tell you more than you need or expect.
