.net extension for an eCommerce website?

Do you think this is a good idea? The .com for the domain name I'm trying to register is taken. The site does not directly accept orders and leads visitors to amazon. Would me registering .net name and building a website that sells pretty much identical products cause problems? Another issues is that .net extension is mostly used by software companies.

Should I just opt out for a slightly different name instead?

Thanks and sorry if this question sounds stupid.

I always use .com. I definitely would never use a .net if the .com is selling the same stuff. You will lose so many sales and return customers to the .com. It will be nearly impossible to get sales through branding without the .com
