Three questions came to mind the other day, and I thought it would be useful to share them with you and invite you to anser the questions yourself. These are theoretical questions, but the answers they brought out of me were eye opening.

If you're open to it, please participate. Thank you.

1. What revenue generating skill am I best at?

2. If I executed that skill (uninterrupted) for 2 days a week, what difference would that make to my bottom line?

3. What's my single biggest challenge in creating the ideal scenario where I have sufficient revenue generating tasks to fill my two days?

NOTE: Uninterrupted means not reading any emails, taking or making any phone calls, organizing stuff. Zilch, nada... Just 100% focus on your best revenue generating skill.

My respective answers:

1. My most effective revenue generating skill is performing web design consultations. Out of every 10 consultations, I end up (on average) helping 5 of those business owners get started online with a new business website.

2. Consultations last 1 hour maximum. If I work a 10 hour day, minus 2 hours for breaks, that's 8 consultations, multiplied by a 5 day week = 40. based on my closing rate (50%), that would make a massive difference to my bottom line, especially as it's residual.

3. The single biggest challenge I foresee in creating the ideal scenario for getting those 40 consultations is locating and building relationships with people who have already built up and have a trust based relationship with the kind of clients I wish to connect with. In other words, leveraging off existing individuals/companies etc. who have are respected by people most likely to purchase my services.

I'm in the business of providing free business websites.

My angle is, I do not charge for designing a professional business website that you'd normally have to pay £500 and more for. You get that free, as long as you host and allow us to maintain and keep your website relevant and updated in Google.

That's where the residual income applies. I charge a onetime set-up fee of £50, and the £17 per month 30 days thereafter. Clients stay with me for at least two years, attrition rate is very low. Clients really only leave if something like their business closed, or because of some major personal upheaval in their lives.

I use the £50 set up fee to research, register and set up their domain name, as well as setting up 1-3 business email accounts, email forwarding, Gmail account and a one hour "Getting Started Online Consultation" session where I'll listen to their needs and give advice based on their feedback.

I spend the first couple of weeks giving as much educational information as possible... preparing my new client for the road ahead, letting them know about the deluge of phone calls they'll receive from marketers offering them SEO, Social media and every other service you can mention under the sun. I never offer any such services to them...

Why?

I want an easy life.

Build the site very quickly and collect residual payments. Make the occasional update for them and answer any questions they may have, and they do have plenty as time goes by.

They see that my warnings were true (of all the phone calls), and come back to me asking questions like "What is SEO", or "What's this social media stuff all about?" I provide answers and they usually ask if that's something I do. i use my discretion at this stage. Sometimes I'll take on the extra work, but only under the guise that there are no guarantees of results. In other words, the total opposite to what they hear on the phones every day.

Anyway, here's my site: www.freewebdesignservices.com. Not all my clients sites are on the portfolio page as not all of them wish to publicize the fact that they got a free website. However, that does not mean I'm anywhere near to my Fast Lane goals in terms of the number of businesses I want to help.

So any help you could provide would be graciously accepted.

To summarize:

Free business websites (5 pages)
One-time 350 set-up fee
£17 a month 30 days thereafter

Thank you.
