Need advice on how to get customers for a service based business

Hello !

I am working on a service based start-up and im getting ready to launch it very soon. This is not an online business. It is a face to face consulting business. A great example of the business type would be like a real estate agent. I am wonder what is the best way to attract new customers?

Now i know word of mouth is sometimes the best way to get new customers but I need this to go viral before that can even begin to happen.

My idea- My idea would be printing out hundreds of flyers that would explain the service. Then just taking a day to pass them out by walking through neighborhoods and putting them on doorsteps. Good idea? Or bad idea?

Is there any other effective ways to market something like this?

Other business that may face the same problem- Landscapers, Real estate agents, Garage cleaners, House painters, Auto detailers , Pressure washing business's,Cleaning business's, Tree service business's.

If you have any ideas on how to market something like this or even past experience any help is awesome
