Hello Everyone!
I am from South Europe (Greece). I heard first time for personal finance / self improvement books at the age of 18 but wasn't too much satisfied. At the age of 20, Millionaire Fastlane has been found through extensive Internet Browsing.
I understood that there is a process to wealth so I focused all my energies after reading the book to finish University, to read a lot (business - related things) and to improve personality and skills (whatever this means). Had difficulties in the beginning with English language, but now I can devour whole books.
I headed myself after graduating straight to the the corporate world and since then I have changed a lot of jobs (worked in sales for a year and did pretty well). Having been inexperienced, the corporate culture was indeed a completely disappointing experience. I now work only to earn a living with no ambitions of a carreer or to grasp some opportunity I will only see as an INSIDERS.
And then, something terrible happened. I had an ''idea''( I am 25 now ).
I sat down and studied everything about the electronics industry. I knew I was an outsider - never worked there - but thought it was easy to sell these things on the Internet (in my region - this stuff is overpriced). Chose a friend as a partner, a programmer (with skills complementary to mine) and started working on this venture.
So...the ''project'' was about a smartphone (at least in the beginning). I know it might sound too much but technology is a commodity these days and I have found a way to ''create'' value for customers, which obviously I cannot share. Manufacturing costs have dropped also.
I have even designed a prototype myself in CAD software (I am an engineer) and wrote the specs. Talked with factories and suppliers and then tried to raise capital first with investors and then with crowdfunding.
I wrote a letter and approached a lot of people. The Response?
Thank you, good luck on your venture, the fund is closed etc. An executive even giggled without even listening to me. I suppose being recommended by somebody matters more than introducing myself in business.
Since I didn't have the capital to finance it and not enough cash for Public Relations promotion for a crowdfunding campaign...I dropped it and I am now searching for ideas that are not capital intensive to generate income by contributing to other people's lives.
Something that is more down-to-earth. Maybe the smartphone enterprise was way too sexy as a business.
By the way, my parents thought I went insane... I was doing that in my bedroom.
Does anyone have similar experiences?
These days I am trying to monetize a blog.
Have any of you raised capital for your business, while being an outsider and with no tracking record?
Obviously, I don't mean pitching my rich relatives since I don't have any.
Have any of you ''made it'' with a blog (traffic, affiliates and some products) ?
Thank you for reading my story. This forum seems full of vibrant members.
