Excel can handle more data than a Google Sheet.
I'll test LibreOffice and OpenOffice at some point. Our 15 year old will be getting homeschooled soon and working with me building websites, AI tools, campaigns, etc. I don't want him to have to learn something else when he's already used to Windows.
This might be more complicated than you are looking for, but there is an open-source spreadsheet called Grist that is a combination spreadsheet and database. I've never used it. You can host the server software in a docker container, or pay to use Grists official servers. It is designed to support excel formulas but handle a lot more data.
If it looked like something you might be able to use, maybe you could use a paid plan for a short period to test it out, and then host it yourself if it looked like it would be worth it.
