I have Windows Vista and Office 2007 which I paid Microsoft handsomely for. I purchased Visio on ebay ages ago before their tyranny really got going. The disc is perfect, and can't be a counterfeit. When I install Visio on my new laptop with said Office 2007, it works fine, until I try to download a template in Office. "You may be the victim of counterfeiting". Get %$#@ed. If the previous owner copied it and gave out the registration key, how's that my problem? The seller was a dealer, by the way. So, it's not a violation of their "EULA".
Anyway, fastforward to recently. I list for sale some special tv broadcast video graphics DVDs (designed to be used by editors and broadcasters) on eBay AUSTRALIA. I am not in the US, did not read or even see a "EULA" and did not sign a contract. I am selling a product, not a license which I purchased. The manufacturer cancels my auction through eBay's Vero program. Funnily, the policies ebay has state that intellectual rights owners can do this, so why can people still sell their movies online?
Forgive me, but I'm pissed with how some companies think they can trample on their own customers' rights because they think they are entitled to. It feels like I'm the only one in business these days who attempts to act lawfully, fairly and equitably. Geez, I mean I have NO contract with the company, they have no power over my actions in Australia. So, they use ebay's desire to cover it's hole in the US to screw me out of selling something I lawfully own, and can lawfully sell in my country. I'll sell it elsewhere, but with a lower sales price, that's for sure.
Funnily, the video graphics DVDs are so great they are addictive. If a newbie got his hands on a half-price second-hand copy, he'd end up buying thousands of dollars of products from the manufacturer. They are shooting themselves in the foot. I wrote an angry email to the CEO, and got a template "read our End User Licence Agreement" email. *&^%@#^%#
Forgive me, I'm just griping about it.
