If it feels weird then it probably is.

But to come on a forum and talk about your handshake is also pretty weird.

What nationality were you dealing with? I know some view not giving eye contact as a sign of friendliness and the inverse as aggressive.

Gonna assume American

Nationality would be my first indicator (as well as age, young guys seem to be a bit more meek/passive).

Without more info, who knows. Seems like a peculiarity that time's being wasted on.

This is a forum about financial independence through fastlane business.

If your business's lynch-pin is the way you shake someone's hand, you're in the wrong business. Most businesses don't even use handshakes and unless it applies to your current, or future, venture, then is shouldn't merit anything more than a passing thought.

Same thing in my view. If you really want to know it was just an agreement to seeing each other on Monday. The industry being real estate & insurance sales. Pretty standard businesses

Maybe they used some great new app on their smartphone to give you eye-contact?

Maybe you were aggressive, and they felt they were dominated into the sale rather than choosing it themselves? Also, it could have just been a coincidence that you got two people in a row who were averse to eye contact. It's good that you caught it, but I don't think you need to adjust your behaviour yet.

If you think they are untrustworthy, then can you not spend money before their cash is in your hand?

And for those of you saying that a handshake discussion should not be part of this forum.... It may not be part of every business, but it's obviously part of the OP's. Nothing wrong with being consciously aware of discrepancies concerning a traditional signal of trust and agreement. As Gary Halbert said, awareness is the difference between those who make it and those who don't.

is this a bit weird to anyone else?

Eye contact is hit or miss. Some people are introverts.

But I'd rather no eye contact than someone who doesn't shake firmly.

I notice things like this too -- a gut-instinct thing. Your gut may be saying be more cautious and not rush into anything until you know them better. It could mean nothing, it could mean lots.
