I've been lurking here for a little while now, it's time I did a proper introduction!
I've had the feeling for a few years now that I don't want to be a mindless drone. Wake up, rush hour, clock in, work, clock out, rush hour, eat, sleep, repeat. It's not that I don't want to work hard, I genuinely enjoy a good project I can sink my teeth into. It's that I don't want to waste all of my hard work lining someone else's pockets, while they treat me like a performing circus animal.
There's also this gnawing urge I've always had to create stuff. I feel like I'm not properly contributing to society unless I'm creating something. I've found lots of ways to satisfy this urge: playing guitar, making electronic music, writing code, making memes, cooking, etc. Those were all distractions, since the only person enjoying them has been myself. I'm not contributing to society unless the things that I create have a positive impact on somebody else's life.
I've always been good at thinking of ideas. I'll encounter a problem and I'll say to whoever I'm with at the time things like "someone should make an X that does Y" or "this X is rubbish, it should work like Y instead". The other person tends to agree, then the idea is quickly forgotten. How I wish I'd been writing all those ideas down!
Right now I'm keeping my eyes open, looking for opportunities to improve on stuff, or to satisfy a need or a want. I'm 32 right now, lets see where I can get by the time I turn 40.
