My FastLane journey started in 2021 when I read “The Millionaire FastLane ”. It changed my entire mindset around how I value money, time, and my youth. I realized I needed to quit my dead-end job and start a business.

Well… I got made redundant in 2023 anyway, and I thought I’d give the business thing a try. To be honest, it didn’t go too well. I didn’t focus on making sales and concentrated on learning more tech stuff.

After I depleted my savings, I got a job working as a mailman. To be honest, it’s the best job I’ve ever had. The pay is awful, but I enjoy it a lot. I strode freely, distributing letters with an unbridled sense of liberation.

Back in April, I decided to start the business again. I asked my job to put me on part-time hours.

I picked up the phone and started selling websites. I never anticipated making a sale to anyone in my lifetime. I had always been an introvert. The fact that I actually made a sale was quite impressive.

That’s when I realized anyone can sell. It’s not easy, but it is possible.

I’m at the point where I want clients to come to me, so I’ve been doing a lot of reading on SEO and digital marketing. In order to gain practice, I offer my digital marketing services for free. The idea is that I can use these people as case studies to demonstrate how good I am.

I now devote 90% of my time to SEO. The downside is that sales have dried up. I have to constantly cold call or DM to get clients. Because I have a part-time job delivering mail, I don’t feel the pressure to make more sales yet. I am gambling hard that my SEO strategy pays off and that clients will come to me.

If the gamble doesn’t pay off, I’ll be screwed and have to go back to working full-time.

I’d like to give a shoutout to my family. It’s only because of them that I can afford to put all this time into my business.

Thank you for sharing it’s really interesting how you’ve gone through ups and down in your business journey. It sounds like you’ve a learned a lot in SEO - how have you been training your SEO skills? What courses have you been using? Have you been using SEMRush or a different tool?

One of the best ways to get clients is by starting a youtube channel on web design. It makes it so much easier to get those deals when the clients come to you instead of you fighting and clawing to land a client cold.

What about joining a local business network group? I just visited one and got an immediate prospect.

Other than that I'm doing a lot of cold emailing (which actually works!). After the summer I'm going to set up a sales team to work on commission and to free up my time.

By the way when selling, always address their possible pain points and find out what their current business challenges. It's all about them, and even about not you (which seems logical!)

I've mainly been reading books, doing online courses (Local Rank Ninja) and practicing SEO on my own website.

I use a FREE tool called Semrush SEO Writing Assistant. This bascially tells you how good your sites content is for Googles search algorithim. I saw a massive improvement in my rankings after I started using it.

I use SERPFox to track rankings.

I use Majestic SEO to check the domain authority of other sites.

Mate thank you for this. I'll start a channel and start posting videos.

Thank you for the advice.

It's good to know that cold emailing is working out. I need to do more of that!
