Hi everyone,
My name's Pete and I'm a 25 year old guy from Ireland. I've read both of MJ's books, which led me to this forum. To the outside observer I'm doing well. I'm earning 60k a year in a secure government job and I've never really wanted for anything. I own a nice car, I take holidays where I want and if I want something material (generally) I can afford to get it. I have no children, I'm single and I have a healthy amount in savings. I'm in a very fortunate position compared to others and I know, and appreciate, that. For the past 5 years I've done what most other young people in my position would do. I've taken wild holidays with my friends, I've partied hard, spent money on cars etc. I thought all of this would make me happy. It hasn't.
MJ's books were real eye-openers to me. This toxic environment of consumerist crap which we're brainwashed into wanting doesn't lead to happiness. I want to be free. I want the flexibility of working on my own terms, where and when I want and choosing to provide real value to real people. I don't want to waste my life working for someone else until I'm old and frail.
I've done well in my professional field. I work with the public and, I suppose, there in lays my skillset. I can talk to people. I can be empathetic, persuasive and I can manage people successfully. I help people and it makes me happy. Apart from this I don't have any unique skills. I don't have a university degree, I can't code, I haven't been involved in marketing and I have no previous knowledge of business. What I do have though, is spare time and drive. I have plenty of time, outside of work, to devote to self improvement and learning. I want to change my life and make this work.
I just feel like I'm a bit overwhelmed at the minute. My brain feels like there is so much to take in. There is so much information going around in my head that it makes it difficult to know what to take action on. I know I need to act and the sooner the better. It's daunting trying to decide what skill to learn to provide value or how to start as a complete newbie in the world of business. I'm seriously considering signing up to Fox's Web School. I've read a good bit of his stuff on here and the thought of having his invaluable knowledge as a coach sounds incredible.
It's great to be here in the company of some truly amazing, successful, people. I look forward to meeting you all and to getting started
