Hello Fastlane Forum -
I am about 75% done with the book and must say it is one of the better books that I have read for business. I LOVE the concept of the Law of Effection, as opposed to the overly hyped Law of Attraction. I use to wonder what sense that ever made, because the math was always in the background trumping all other concepts, from successful start-ups to geek millionaires, math ruled the day. How come all those experiencing success were simply better at math - business, investing, marketing, etc. Math always prevailed, not the law of attraction. Now this book falls into my hands to quantify it more completely - amazing. Law of Attraction must have brought me the book! How ironic.
OK, I have a serious question. I have written about three books with mediocre sales on Kindle. Reading the Kindle forums, most authors will never sell anything, and the top sellers are mostly vampire books, fantasy fiction, romance, etc., the exact opposite of what I sell (mine are financial in nature with one particularly suited for a scary marketing campaign on the state of America's economy, but not good for Kindle pricing). When I read about success in Kindle, it reminds me of success in network marketing, or Adsense. They always point to one HUGE success, like Amanda Hocking for Kindle or PlentyofFish for Adsense or BigJoe with 5 boats and 3 mansions for network marketing. But the masses make very little while the company rakes it in.
It seems all of these models are a violation of magnitude because we have a lack of control over profits. The Kindle pricing structure is 70% for books priced at $2.99 to $9.99, and 35% for everything else. That is a very limiting pricing structure! I am trying to sell my ebook for $27 through advertising and marketing, which is expensive, so I am breaking even or taking some losses while improving the message. I could promote it on Kindle but that is even worse. How many people are really successful at this pricing model? Similar to Adsense and Google or network marketing owners making the big money, Amazon has created this pricing so it makes the big money through high volume and low pricing through the masses.
Is it not better to just create your own books for sale on your own website for higher profits? I don't get the Kindle hype at all. I am marketing my book through a problem/solution video to a targeted market and need higher pricing to pay for it, make some money, improve the marketing, and try to grow a business. Has anyone else had a similar experience on Kindle and needed to raise prices?
