Is it worth it to start a dropshipping store for festive items?

E.g. Halloween, xmas etc.

Obviously, you'd expect a spike before the festive, but it'll be obsolete until next year.
Of course I know I could just change my inventory to something else after that, but it'll take a hella lot of work to upload everything, advertise it, plus competition etc., then re-do all the work again to another product after the festive, and I'm not sure if it'll be worth it for such a short spike in sales in the end.

Or is it better to put my efforts on more generic items I can sell all year around?

Anyone tried doing this?

How do I 'run the numbers'?
Amateur here. Never sold a thing.

(ok, I'm about to sell my first 'thing', but the buyer hasn't paid yet so it just might not go through)

Start from either end........

What are the costs of pop up store 'x' down the street? Rent? utilities? Labor? Taxes? Permits?
What gross margins and level of sales would be needed to cover those costs + profit + taxes?

Or what products are available? What do they sell for? What are the potential margins? So then where do my costs need to be to cover what level of sales to make profit + taxes?

Pull up the closest one and do the exercise Here to help others.

Idk , have you done basic market research?

Do you have suppliers? What are the margins?

Do you have starting capital?

Are you thinking shopify or a site you build out?

Branded white label or generic?

Not to be an a-hole but maybe come back when you've thought this through longer than a commercial break.

Nope, I primarily wanted to hear from ppl who've actually tried both like, Monkeycom (who've been very helpful). Forgive me, but I think it's easier to ask someone who's 'been there, done that' than to conduct 'market research' yourself, e.g. ask a dermatologist who've had experience actually treating patients instead of scouring through pages and pages of medical journals yourself for the answer. If you think that's lazy, shrug. Different strokes for different folks.

Supplies- already mentioned I plan to dropship. Margins, not high. The niche would be the quantity over quality for profit (sorry if that sounds bad, but you can't exactly sell a plastic Halloween mask for 1k)

Capital- a lot. But I ain't gonna pour it all into a trial run am I?

Shopify SEEMS to be the answer for a beginner / trial run. It's part of an experience of what options run smoother / less costly in the long run. So I'll have all the answers when I do go for that-home-run.
Generic- try to stick to lower cost for a trial

Who is your customer?
What is/are their problem(s)?
Are they willing to pay for a solution to this problem?
How much are they willing to pay for a solution?
Who is already providing your customer with a solution?
How will your solution be better?

You need to talk to your customers before you start your business.
If you don't know how to find them, how'd you plan to market to them?

Stop looking for a business to start or a solution to sell.
Start looking for a problem to solve.
Then validate that people are willing and able to pay for your solution.
