In a few years, ill be taking important tests (GSCES) that will most likely determine my future in school. And ever since finding about entrepreneurship, I've had the question: is school somewhat important to success in entrepreneurship ? What are the Pros and Cons following the school path? I'm not looking for a answer that'll satisfy me to not give a shit about school for the next few years (unless that's actually the case) but a non-biased answer that'll answer my question.

school will teach you how to be a good worker. a good worker who will bring lots of income to the boss!

its F*cking stupid. no creativity, no real thinking, just regurgitating pointless information.

they basically train you to do all the tasks that ChatGPT can do. what is a student quizzed on that ChatGPT wont beat them in? so its pointless because you can easily use ChatGPT to do anything that you will learn in school

"b-b-but the connections"
my school is full of 120 pound vape addicts who will soon be addicted to vr porn. online is a way better place to make good connections

"but you learn important time management skills"
you don't learn business time management. if you learned business time management you would use ChatGPT to complete all the assignments so you can get a higher Roi on your time. you learn 9-5 slave time management. they make you do it the slow old-school way like how you'd do things in an assembly line

"but you can take business class"
my business class goes as follows:
- a 65 year old (not retired yet) obese lady tells us to open our textbooks and write the definitions of "gender discrimination" and "glass ceiling"
- i go on my laptop and close sales while shes going on about the difference between a corporation and a co-op (i can easily ask ChatGPT and learn that in 60 seconds"
- my business teacher who has never ran a business before tells me that i need to focus on the textbook so i can get good grades, apply to business university, become an accountant, and make 60k/year! yes! thats what im taking business for!

I have to say, I've taken one class that has had a huge positive impact on my life. its one of the subjects that people don't consider a subject: drama. it taught me how to express myself, read body language, and most importantly, manage others. math on the other hand has taught me to memorize a formula and input it to an equation (ChatGpt can easily do that for me)

im talking about highschool here though. im a sophomore in highschool. this is what i think being in school right now.

"I finished my International GCSEs with straight A*s, or as they are now known, 9s. I took A-Level maths and AS physics. These courses were like the first 2 lectures in college.

First of all, here's a tip: you need to be conscious and perspicacious enough to absorb the content in high school. Most of the concepts are easy to learn, but they require a deep understanding of the fundamentals of any subject. If you do that, you won’t need to study hard at all.

The next thing is college. I genuinely believe that going to university is a scam unless you want to be a dentist, architect, or medical practitioner. Why? Because most of these careers are practical, and they require proof that you can do your job right, as other people's lives are dependent on you. For example, a poor architect would design a weak building that would fall because the design is incorrect or has errors. However, for almost anything else in life, you don’t need a university!

Why I hate university:

  1. Outdated curricula: not only are they outdated, but also the subjects are so out of touch with reality that students need to take courses just to qualify for a job. Useless subjects, such as learning Chemistry in college as a Mechatronics systems engineer after mandatory learning in high school, or learning English literature in college. Why does it matter? Why do I need to learn how to review an article in college? It’s a scam. University is for proving that you can do your chores for 5 years straight, then you will be handed a certificate. [HOW GOOD OF A SLAVE WILL YOU BE]. I don’t remember what I learned last year, and to be quite frank, almost 70% of what I learned is useless. You can learn each subject through YouTube. You also don’t need 4 years to finish college. It can be done in 2, excluding the dumb subjects. But it’s a scam; how else are they going to be profitable?
  2. The scripted environment: I feel super lonely. All I think about is financial freedom, starting a business, and providing value to people around me. BUT NO, all my colleagues think about is grades and internships. Everyone is aspiring to be an employee, with no ambition, and they aren’t worried about the future.

It’s a scam! It’s all a scam wake up!

What else have I missed?

Imagine going to the university for 4 years to acquire an MBA degree. Scripted mandatory scam.

Doesn't need to be zero sum. You can do both. I aced both my GCSE's and A Levels & I'm doing entrepreneurship next to my degree.

school will teach you how to be a good worker. a good worker who will bring lots of income to the boss!
Or it you can find a way to teach yourself & be self sufficient. A key skill in entrepreneurship. It's about perspective.
ts F*cking stupid. no creativity, no real thinking, just regurgitating pointless information.
On some parts yes, but I disagree. You can see it that way or you can really engage with the subject and learn a metric shit tonne on how the works, engineering, business, writing, speaking, languages. It's the wrong way to look at it as a memory test.

I still use my GCSE knowledge to today. Including in my ventures.

Far too much over reliance on this. I see your point, but its still important to understand concepts deeply instead of being spoon fed.

Good point, business classes aren't taught by business professionals. But most teachers end up teaching because they didnt want to. Maybe I'm wrong.

Not a scam. Perhaps there is other stuff that should be done instead, but I still think its very valuable. It depends how you spend your university life. I genuinely think if you're asking the question "should I go to uni" you need to go to uni, otherwise you'd be posting on forums all day and doing nothing.

The connections I've built in entrepreneurship are invaluable, and have led me into a gateway of very talented individuals. You have to dig, but they're out there.

I go to uni because I want to hire employees from there. And I made sure I went to a middle class uni (that costs 1/4th of a good uni) that people in America would consider "A community college"

I'm building a community within that uni so I can attract the cream of the crop among developers. So far, only a few have joined. But do you see why I'm going to uni? I'm going so I can feed off the scripted drones and get them to build my dreams.

Nevertheless, I had to get out of my comfort zone and be in the spotlight.

Use uni to self-practice psychology, entrepreneurship. In my case, going to uni is 100% mandatory. So I had to figure out how to best utilize that time.

good advice, but can you explain what you mean by valuable?
  • Good universities have a concentration of smart arses all in one place. You can begin building an insane network of people for business. I'm beginning to do this myself. You gotta dig, but once you find them, it's so easy. They're friends with other smart arses & networks just grow exponentially.
  • They are environments where people do not have expectations on you. You can try shit out & be awful at it. No one cares. You're a student. I've found this particularly potent with start-up & learning investing.
  • You study a subject deeply, and you get to further your understanding of how you learn.
  • You get a baseline salary you can always fall back on if ventures fail
  • You have the opportunity to try out tonnes of new stuff you may never have been exposed to
  • There is no other time in life better to develop social skills. Clubbing, bars, societies, your course. So many people you get to interact with & learn.

Sure you can do all this stuff outside of a degree, but it's not as easy - I've experienced working fulltime & being a student. Being a student is far easier.

With all this said, it matters where you're going to university. If I was American, I never would unless it was paid for. However the British system is more of a tax that wipes after 30 years. If I was German I would snap their hands off.

Aswell, the degree matters. STEM is really the way to go (Or economics/business/Law), hard stuff to do at degree level - worthwhile. I do chemistry and that comes with prestige. I'm not sure if an arts degree justifies £9,250 of tuition.

It's so nuanced. Uni is good for some, terrible for others. If you want to talk about more specifics I'd love to chat over DM.

Do you mean GCSE?

It is optional, but if you drop out of school, it is a harder path for most people.

If you can achieve success without school, you would be done it via the easier path, achieving it alongside finishing school requirements.

Getting good grades in school is about something other than learning anything applicable in real life. It is about training psycho-cognitive mental toughness, which is useful in real life.

Most high entry barrier businesses are done by "geeks bearing formulas", so it might be opening you to more doors later.

Another practical issue is when you have dropped out of school, it becomes harder to pitch yourself in different settings. For a job or investment in your business. Most people stay in jobs for years to fund their business which has yet to be profitable.

You become indistinguishable from millions of lazy dropouts or simply drug addicts. You need to have a solid track record to prove yourself. It might be easier to save the trouble by just finishing school.
