I am listening to fastlane millionaire and wanted to introduce myself.
Studied engineering in bachelor and master but never wanted to work in this field. Always dreamed of something in IT. Finally got the chance to work in a startup and then could transition as a student to IT, in my case DevOps. If you ever want to figured out what to do, join a start-up or small company. So many opportunities to help.
My next dream was working remotely. Check after a couple of years. I felt empty after reaching that goal. What's next?
Now 7+ years hands on I got offered a management role and I accepted to do something new. Hands on got kind of boring
All this time I am thinking what is next? I need to built something for myself. Some kind of business.
Last year I started to write a book. Pragmatic Self-Hosting - Self-Hosting for absolute beginners. This is for me 10 years ago. Someone with no idea playing with tech and learn how to run apps and services at home. Heck, it changed my life and made me a career.
After 90 pages in I stopped writing. I am not sure why. Maybe a focus problem.
Now I am listening fast lane millionaire and I feel the need of finishing this book. During discussion on other platforms someone also suggested to write another book about self-hosting for solo Devs or indie hackers. I want to write this as well.
During all that I am also trying to get into the hardware business. It's a small PCB I designed 2 years ago. Now I hired a professional to do it proper. The hard part is figuring out the legal entity I need to create in order to sell this. I also might have a crowd source agency helping me. Will it make me rich? Hell no, I just want to learn how this business works. And if I like it I have plenty of ideas.
During all this time I did earn some money as a DevOps. Basically 100% of my income and that with a 4 day work week. Meaning 80% pay from my full salary.
Good salary butnNothing which make me rich but I am also a guy without big needs. So most of this is going into some lucky stock picks with buy and hold and msci world etf. My current network just reached the 100k after about 7 years with just work and a frugal lifestyle. (Not too frugal)
I want to stay 2-3 years and learn the management role while building up my own thing. That is at least my dream. Let's see how it goes.
