I started pretty young, and enjoyed myself. I think looking back, things fell into place really really well. however, I would not be in such a rush to get married or get serious with a girl so young (21) I mean really, how smart are 21 yr olds? or for that matter 19 yr old girls? (hint: not very)

in-spite of that however, I would play around more.

When I got serious about biz, I got really serious pretty fast. once you learn you don't really have a speed limit on learning, and you don't have a speed limit on making money (really guys you don't) then you just go and whoosh make money, and enjoy yourself.

SO I think I would stop an enjoy myself more.

:)

These are great responses. It's interesting to see that with a few exceptions, we seem to regret the things we DIDN'T do and the chances we DIDN'T take. Even the failures, it seems, taught us something. But not taking that chance doesn't teach us anything, except what it feels like to mourn a lost opportunity.

My Regrets:
Giving so much of my life's energy to the slow-lane. I've been a very good employee, and that's not necessarily a good thing.
Not investing in real estate 15 years ago. Funny to think we could've owned several paid-off, or nearly paid off, rentals by now.
Not starting fastlane pursuits earlier, especially before having a mortgage and family to support. Also, looking back, I had a ton more free time back then. I wish I'd put it to more productive use.

Would of stopped making excuses on why i couldent go to step 2 with having (x) yet, why i couldent go to step 3 without having (y) yet... basically i would of put ideas into action faster. Its all about execution.

Just going through some "best of" searches to get up to speed.
Besides, Vig told me to read your book BEFORE I joined the "Inside" and I have time to kill until it gets here :)

we seem to regret the things we DIDN'T do and the chances we DIDN'T take.

One of my all time favorite quotes is, "you only regret the things you didn't do, not the things you did" - or something along those lines.

For me, I don't regret "doing" anything. Certainly there are things that could have been done better, but each mistake was a education that brought me to where I am today.

In hindsight though, here are a few things I think that could have improved or sped the process:

- get a financial education sooner
- save more, spend less
- related to above, not spend so frivolously when I was making a lot of money in my early 20s
- traveled more at a younger age
- learned another language or 2 earlier in life
- followed my gut more with business decisions
- seek out success-minded people earlier
- conversely, weeded out negative people sooner
- never, ever, ever buy a bar.....
- get a mentor earlier in life

So i'm 20 now. If I was 16 again I wish:

1. I wasn't such a smart a$$, I don't know as much I think know.

2. Save as much money as I could.

3. Read as much about Finance as I could.

4. Focus more on producing value than consuming the latest gadgets and junk.

5. Would have build more relationships.

6. Read more books on technology startups.

7. Never trust anyone. Charm, Friendliness and words are not an indication of trust.

8. Listened more than I talked.

9. Focused more on the market's problems and desires than on my own(vanity and selfishness).

10. The most successful products and services are the ones that cut costs AND solve problems.

11. The Universe just does not give a shit. It doesn't care that you were not popular in high school. It doesn't care that you wanna be rich. It just doesn't give a shit.

12. You can start a company at ANY age. Back then the thought of filing for paper work and taxes sounded scary now its a piece of cake.

13. Not seek approval from others and not seek to impress.

14. Understand that the world is crazy huge and i'm just this little tiny piece of the whole. I'm not on a stage with a spotlight.

15. Read the wall street journal.

16. Paid more attention to the market landscape to spot opportunities.

17. Be less inhibited, the world doesn't give a shit. Just be you. The same you when you were 2 years old, when you did things and you didn't care who was watching.

18. Polish my communication skills.

19. Buy a used 4 cylinder asian car, they are reliable and efficient. Cars are just too expensive for this stage of my life. The nice cars come later.

20. knowledge really is power. It gives you the ability to spot opportunities and build companies with competitive advantages.

21. Fastlane marketing is all about communicating value. How are you gonna communicate it?

22. Ideas are totally useless. Execution is the crux of the fastlane.

23. Excuses are just lies we tell ourselves to mask hurtful truths we seek to avoid.

24. Some of the best ideas are thought of when you are just casually living life not when you sit your a$$ down and force yourself to think of business ideas.

25. Negative attitudes and emotions can only be overcome by positive attitudes and emotions. You gotta be positive even when life sucks.

On the real. Only regrets would be....

-Not attempting to learn a second language at a younger age

-Wish I had known years ago how to make my business as profitable as I do now. Would of made double or triple. That's not really a regret more of a learning curve.

-Most importantly not hung out with losers or negative people. Be around positive people, who bring you up and inspire you rather than bring you down.

-Don't get caught up in little profits but don't neglect them. You make $60 twenty times its now $1200 you make $1200 twenty times its now $24,000 you make 24,000 twenty times it's not $480,000.

Probably more but I am tired. Regret very few business ventures I tried. We learn from our mistakes.
