Something I have struggled with my whole life is that many ideas I have are so big that they are bigger than I know what to do with. By this I mean I wouldn't even know how to make a plan of attack because then next 15 steps allude me.
I see many other threads started here with the same problem facing the folks starting them.
So, I decided to benefit all come to the collective wisdom of the forum and get advice on how to handle these. In situations where you have no idea where to turn next, what do you do?I hesitate to give examples because I do not want anyone to get bogged down on the examples, but I also find the can lend clarity. I will give a few. Please do not focus on the specifics of the examples if possible but an overall strategy for addressing these bigger than life ideas.Right now I have an idea. There are companies in the space right now. Last figures I saw had the lead company at $180 million in sales per year. Not sure the other 2. I use the leading company. As a user and talking to other users, I know my idea would steal a large portion of share from each of the others, but I have no idea how to go from idea to reality. Here are some real world example, but the first is somewhat fictionalized.1. Assume 10 or so years ago I worked at McDonalds and got angry that I had to buy a new car charger for my phone everytime I got a new phone. I had an aha moment and came up with the idea for the universal car charger adapter. (if my 10 year ago assumption is incorrect, adjust the timeline to when this actually happened). Now, I work at McDonalds, so my connections are very limited in the cell phone charger space. I hear many people making the same complaint, so I know there is a need.
Where do I go with it?
Do I take the blue pill, go home and play playstation and forget about my glimpse of hope, or is there a strategy I can employ to make it happen?2. A few years back I had an idea for a reality tv show. I have no connections in this space so nowhere to turn with it. I took the blue pill, but what was my alternative? How could I have taken the red pill?Again, not looking for specific advice for these examples but for a strategy one can employ to get to those specifics in situations where you are so far removed from anyone or anything that you are aware that can take them to the next step. Thanks and I hope this helps others as well.
