Hi everyone!
I'm Nina and I'm new here. Many thanks @MJ DeMarco for giving me the opportunity of networking with likeminded people!
I recently read the Millionaire Fastlane and saw many similarities to my story.
De Marco's description of the slowlane worker hit me like a ton of bricks because it resonates with my story.
I used to be one of them. I quit my job in architecture 6 months ago, very close to the peak of my career, because I was miserable.
Years and years spent studying, to find myself stuck at a desk 8h a day, looking out the window imagining a life outside the office.
After 8 years in the construction industry I realised I was in prison. My salary could never make me rich.
In fact, the more I got paid the least I could afford to buy because of the post-Brexit ludicrous inflation.
I looked at the lives of senior architects and directors at my practice and they looked consumed with responsibilities, showing up at the office at 7am and leaving late.
Yes, they owned big houses and nice cars, but..they didn't have any time left to play and to spend with their families!
So I thought - what's the point??
The job was 10% joy, the few times I took the pencil and sketched my ideas...and 90% admin, phone calls with nightmarish contractors and exhausting day long site meetings.
I used to love my job, but the idea of working so much with only 20 days holidays in a year is nuts!
I was constantly snowed under with work to do, burnt out and miserable.
The weekends were there just to recover and get ready for the next 9am Monday meeting. Then repeat!
So last year I finally made the big decision. I quit my 'secure job' in UK and went back to my home country for a long break.
I didn't have a plan. I just knew I didn't want to work towards somebody else's dream...and dividends!
I know I can work for myself and make lots of money if I put my mind to it.
I'm determined and self disciplined.
The only thing I lack at the moment is a clear direction.
But I trust it will come.
In the meantime networking with other people who have similar realisations and goals sounds like a good idea!
