I just saw notification from the Fastlane forum site that someone tagged me in this post. I have texted you as well.

These days I usually use Solidworks, and I create 3D solid models of parts and assemblies. I can generate a 2D dimensioned drawing as well using Solidworks. These drawings are what most people call "schematics" or "blue prints", though I feel those terms are inaccurate. I prefer "engineering drawings", or "shop prints". Back in the old days (80's and 90's) we didn't have 3D so we just used AutoCAD for everything.

Note that these days, in the engineering world, 3D solid models are far more useful, though we still do generate 2D prints (but they are created from the 3D model).
