Currently, its 25+ years established, but it's a one man business, I'll probably be hiring and scaling it, although I don't have any experience in this industry. Is there anyone else doing this kind of business? If so I'd appreciate any advice.

Currently running a web design & SEO business so I'm not a beginner.

What exactly are you inheriting?

Someone's list of customers who might drop you as it's the other person they had the relationship with.

Spend as much time with the owner and learn everything he does day to day.

You should hire the owner.

If you really want to DIY, hit the lawn care forums, interview local competitors or run ads for an experienced local operator to run it. Seriously though, getting your hands on a one person business with no background in the industry probably isn't worth much. What you want is a business with systems in place. Marketing, billing, customer service, stuff like that. Check with @Johnny boy about maybe leveraging the tools he's already built out in return for some kind of revenue split.
