This is not to be taken as medical advice.
I've been taking a couple of common prescription drugs for the past year (by way of doctor, not illegally) to "treat" ADHD and anxiety. They helped mask the symptoms, but along with them were also a list of side-effects.
:nono:
Now, after having read Fastlane and a few other books that dealt with mindset adjustment and lifestyle change, I realized that most, if not all, of my problem was with my mindset and unrealistic expectations coupled with ineffective actions.
I believe that some peoples' brain chemistry makes it hard to function without such drugs, but I also believe that people sell themselves short and give up, like I did, and end up dependent on these prescriptions to function.
To me, a big part of the decision has been CONTROL. If I'm popping a couple pills every morning to allow myself to function, I'm lying to myself and passing self-control off to the pharmaceutical companies. And let me tell you, it is insanely EASY to get prescriptions for these types of drugs.
So, this is kind of my getting-it-off-the-chest post, as well as my hope for anyone else who feels dependent on "glorified cocaine" (as I call ADD medication), to take a hard look at their situation and have the belief in their own willpower to make good changes to their lifestyle without the drugs. But as always, this needs to be discussed with your doctor, as I did a couple days ago.
Cheers for control
