In today’s world, we're constantly bombarded with endless distractions.
Every time we scroll through YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok, we’re hit with an overwhelming array of new trends and projects. There's this cool epoxy table. Or this fancy artwork. And it all looks so easy to replicate. Why not just do some of this cool stuff on your own. I mean the person in the video did it so effortlessly - I can do it easily.
Just like this you could find multiple new cool hobbies every other day.
So you decide to try the first thing.
Let's say the cool epoxy table.
You buy some stuff to do it on your own.
You try it by following every step you saw in the video.
It doesn't work so effortlessly like in the video.
You get frustrated: "Why is the other person able to do it so easily and I'm not?"
You go back on your favourite platform for a few minutes until the algorithm spits out another coll thing you should definitly try!
And the cycle continues, with each failed attempt leading you back to the comfort of scrolling through more content.
We forget how much time goes into learning something new and perfecting it. Most of those people did their thing for years until they managed to do it the way they show on social media. It was common for me to have 10 different hobbies at once without fully commiting to one. I got better a little bit with all of them but I was never outstanding at one.
So what worked for me?
First of all, the thing you always hear: delete the social media apps that you only use to consume stuff.
Socond: Turn off the YouTube recommendations. You won't get bombarded with thousands of different videos each day showing you new cool stuff. You will have to search for what you want to see. -> This helped me a lot to minimize my time spent on YouTube and also find deeper interest in less stuff.
Third: Plan what you want to do. Assign a day to a hobby or something else to do. Monday is for sports, Thuesday is for working on my car, Wednesday is for Gaming, ...
Don't try to do everything every day. This will burn you out quite fast and you feel like you don't have time for anything.
Fourth: Reflect on the things you do. Does it really make me happy or am I just doing it because I feel obligated? I felt this with a lot of games. I just played it to get this one cosmetic item which was only available for one week. So of course I had to play all the time to get everything. But did it really change the game? And did I actually use it? Most of the time it was just the fear of missing out.
Fifth: Do one thing and only one. Work on your business and leave your phone out of the room if you don't need it. Turn off YouTube and close the mailing program. Focus on the task at hand. You will get into a flow state and it feels much more fulfilling and you will get stuff done and improve your ability.
These five steps really helped me filter out all the stuff I just did for no reason and the stuff I really loved to do and focus on them. One of those things is working on my business (Thank god). It fulfills me to see people which enjoy what I provide for them.
If this helped at least one person I'm more than happy!
