Hey everyone,
I’ve been noticing a clear pattern in my own behavior and wanted to get some honest input from people who are actually building something.
Whenever I have unrestricted access to media (especially social media, YouTube, Gaming, TV or adult content), my focus drops significantly. I get distracted, delay important work, and overall make less progress on my business, health, and personal goals.
Because of that, I recently started implementing stricter measures:
My question is:
Do you rely mostly on self-discipline, or do you actively design your environment to eliminate distractions?
More specifically:
I’m trying to figure out whether long-term success is more about building discipline, or building systems that make discipline almost unnecessary.
Would appreciate honest, practical answers — especially from those who’ve been consistent over a longer period.

Whenever I have unrestricted access to media (especially social media, YouTube, Gaming, TV or adult content), my focus drops significantly. I get distracted, delay important work, and overall make less progress on my business, health, and personal goals.
Because of that, I recently started implementing stricter measures:
- Limiting social media to a short daily window only for posting content
- Removing or restricting access to entertainment (gaming, series, etc.)
- Physically separating devices or locking them away to reduce temptation
My question is:
Do you rely mostly on self-discipline, or do you actively design your environment to eliminate distractions?
More specifically:
- Do you use blocking tools or strict limits?
- Have you ever gone through “no entertainment” phases?
- How do you deal with things like social media or other high-dopamine distractions long-term?
