There are all kinds of casino boats that generate huge amounts of money by allowing people to gamble offshore. What about boat brothels? I know that there is a huge amount of money in the legal sex market and it is far from saturated. Any thoughts?

It is probably a viable biz idea. Legally - you may be able to get it worked out.

As MJ said in another post.... there is the fastlane through the ghetto. If taking that lane will mesh with your personal life, values, etc. then go for it.

I'm not saying it's for me. Just wondering if anyone knew anything or where to find information.

Just for discussion:
As far as ethics, morals, values, ect. go- prostitution is going to happen regardless. With this business you are providing a safe venue where the girls have control. You implement drug/STD testing. No walking the street or any other BS like that. Your clients would obviously be of a higher caliber than the average "john." A steep entry price keeps a lot of a$$ hats out. Look at the Bunny Ranch...$$$$$

Chuck, I actually like your idea a lot...and not just because of my own personal interest.

If you think about, whether you think you are or not, everyone pays for sex in one way or another. Whether it's directly to a prostitute or to take a date out for the night, you wind up paying. Why not just make things easy for those who want it that way?

It started as just a topic for the forum, but the more I think about it, the better the idea gets. I just have no idea where to even begin researching this...

Diane, any ideas what kind of taxing is there for the legal prostitution business?

Haha, I can't believe we're talking about this. Good thing my parents don't look at this; between this thread and the "investing in strip clubs" thread, they'll wonder what kind of forum this is.

Anyway, I think you should first consider what type of legal procedures you'd have to go through for this type of business. Maybe you could buy an island to house this business!

...or maybe what 'til you grow a bit to do that. This could make you the next Hugh Hefner!

Honestly, though, if this were to be strictly controlled and well operated, I think it could be a solid business idea...especially when you consider all the potential you have with this type of business. For instance, you could charge the customers for a room on the boat. Then, you could charge a lot for extras, just like at the movies. They could include food, condoms, and anything else you could imagine on a Brothel Boat!

I'm actually liking this idea more and more as we go along as well.

I know that it's a valid idea in theory. I just have no idea of the legal structuring.

You guys and the things you come up with. haha Interesting idea though, I will give you that. I know when I go to Mrytle Beach, SC and right on the NC/SC line they have two casino boats that seem to do pretty well. I have been going on it every since I was 18 (Legal age to gamble and drink in international waters). They have a morning cruise and a evening cruise...served with buffet and live music. The two boats I am referring two (SunCruise and I forgot the other name) takes about an hour to get international waters and the gambling to start). You could have a strip club section for the 1st hour(may take you less, depends I guess where you are leaving out at....keep it mind it would have to be 21+ only though) and then after you get out in international waters...18+ and ANYTHING goes. haha Research it...I think it would be worth your time to do so!

Ive been out on casino boats many times. Very enjoyable. No gambling for 45 minutes out (approximately 3 miles) and no gambling 45 minutes back to port. They literally have a switch to prevent machines from processing any further requests. Your usually out for 3-5 hours. They are less regulated then land casinos.

Trying to steer clear of politics here. This idea would be much, much safer then the alternative. Regulated brothels are very safe health wise and, are much safer for the girls physically. That said, it would not fly in many areas. You may operate for a few months, but I can see port cities preventing your boat from docking there. Especially if you try to operate in the bible belt. As soon as someone catches wind of this it would be a very heated topic indeed. You would have to be financially prepared for the legal battle that would certainly ensue.

Negative aside, its a very interesting idea. Kudos thinking around a problem. I wonder if illegal prostitution would decline in those port cities. Kinda of how graffiti walls have lowered graffiti in many cities. Sorry, but the geek side of me would love to see a test city just to see if it did lower prostitution. Ha..that would be a hoot.

Looks like I have a lot of reading to do over the weekend. Anyone have any good resources off the top of their head?

I'm in Florida, so access to the water isn't a problem. I have been researching the laws pertaining to International Waters. It looks like you're good unless you're dealing in piracy or slave trade. The only immediate problem that I see is that true international waters are WAY out there. The other issue does come back to the porting city for obvious reasons.

How about setting one up in New Orleans? I was there last Feb. and there doesn't seem to be any moral police lurking. Anything goes in N.O. Heck you can gamble on the Shreveport boats in what ever river is over there. It's miles away from the ocean.

I didn't read your link to find out how far "way out there" is lol but one thing you could maybe do is have to "fun" boat sitting out in international waters and have a more speedy boat to get the guys (and maybe women? lol) out there ASAP. Have that boat going and coming every 30 minutes or something like that...

I remembered having saw something similar a while back, I looked it up (see below).

Moral issues aside I think the main challenge of running such an operation would be the legal matters. You would have to lobby local politics to let you run the business, they would love the tax money but I doubt they could afford the lost votes.

Party Boat Hired as Brothel, Police Say

The Half Moon, an 80-foot private cruise boat, is typically chartered for bar mitzvahs, weddings and corporate cocktail parties.
But on Thursday night, the police said, the vessel embarked from Flushing, Queens, with more than 100 passengers for a different sort of voyage: a night of nude dancing, partying and prostitution.
Three men who chartered the boat through Marco Polo Cruises at the World's Fair Marina were charged with promoting prostitution, and three women were charged with prostitution .

Not sure how that would work, I think you can still be charged with promoting prostitution (see the article I posted above)

Could you exploit the loop hole that escort services have been abusing for years? The other thing was that article did not describe how far out they went.

So for anyone following this, escort industry laws are a f'ing mess. Over 50,000 new laws passed every year in the USA alone. I know there is money to be made here, but it sure isn't going to be "easy money."

I'm up to an army of two, woot! Got a partner over the weekend. Setting up a meeting with a lawyer next week to cover Florida law, still trying to find someone well versed in international law. Starting to figure out the finances. This idea = notcheap.com
