Hi everyone,
My name is Mihnea, which I know is hard to pronounce for some. I'm from Romania, Eastern Europe.
As background, I come from a middle-class working family. Grandparents were simple workers, uneducated, but hard-working. My parents went to universities and worked middle-class jobs. And I was educated at a technical university, had a good middle-class job as a software engineer. But I admit, I'm easily bored at work, and I love multi-tasking, so I always find myself doing more than just 1 job. More than just coding.
Over time, I've read quite a few business books ("The Personal MBA", "Blue Ocean Strategy", "Diary of a CEO", "The Lean Startup", "Small Giants", "Zero to One", "The Richest Man in Babylon", "Rich Dad, Poor Dad") and one of the latest was "The Millionaire Fastlane ", which brought me here. I very much enjoyed its particular way of structuring why you should do a business, the CENTS framework, but also the reasonable logic behind why doing business is supposed to be hard!
That was an uplifting lesson for me - The fact that it's going to be hard, and it's supposed to be hard.
Professionally, I've been working as a software engineer since 2013. Additionally, I part-timed as a university assistant professor and taught software at a school for professional reconversion. I'm good at software, and I'm good at teaching. But I get bored with repetition, so I couldn't stay and teach the same stuff over and over.
I also spent four years freelancing. Now, I've started a spin-off company in Romania for my most recent freelancing client. It currently operates under a software outsourcing and consultancy business model.
We have a work plan and budget for this year, but by the end of the year, the project from the main company is expected to be downsized. We don't know how much. So they're expecting us to have another client, or a way of making money more independently from them.
We're 7 developers and designers. We definitely have the resources to build performant software.
My question for myself is now how to steer this ship.
We're 2 co-CEOs, I'd say I'm more inclined towards business work, and my partner is more technical. I also code, but I enjoy multitasking more.

This is me starting to put myself out there.
What I'm looking for:
1. Advice
How would you say we should proceed now?
Should we look for clients and continue outsourcing?
Should we build a product, but then, the question comes as to what kind of product?
2. Is anyone looking to build software products?
Is this still a relevant business model?
Does anyone need excellent software engineering or design for their business?
3. How is software helping you right now do your work?
Are there any areas where it could help you even more?
What software is helping or hindering your work or life right now?
4. Financing or investors
I'm currently searching for this, but would anyone recommend places to find financing or investment opportunities for specific software products?
5. Community
Having like-minded people and seeing that I'm not alone in the struggle to build a business is a breath of fresh air.
6. Feedback on my product ideas
I have several product ideas, and I would like to validate them. I don't think this thread is the place for this.
Is there a thread for this?
I hope I can find parts of what I'm looking for on this forum.
