I can't say much about affiliate marketing as I haven't tried it, but it seems like you're doing work for someone else and being paid peanuts compared to what they're making for your referrals.
And they can pull the plug without warning.

If you write well you might consider copywriting, web design, digital marketing
Plenty of threads here which say how easy it is to start your own business that way
