One month before the big (national) launch ... I find out someone ... in a very similar line of business ... is operating under a (near) identical name ... and registered the name with the USTPO.
F*ck.
No way around that. Time to re-brand.
So assume (for sake of this example) that I own a strip club in Vegas.
And in response to the foregoing discovery ... I stumble upon and acquire "Vegas Strip Club .com"
Which is a great domain ... but ... I don't want to name my business "Vegas Strip Club"
So after doing a little research ... I find a name I like.
For sake of the example ... we'll call it "Zsophia"
Femine ... Sexy ... and no other businesses in my line of work using the name.
Box checked.
But compared to "Vegas Strip Club" ... "Zsophia" is hard to spell ... and not all that easy to remember.
And I should also mention ... "Zsophia.com" is owned by a cat food company.
So the .com option is not there.
But as far as Trademarks go ... the Cat food trademark is not going to be a problem ... Zsophia works.
So the next thing I do is gobble up: Zsophia.Club and ZsophiaStrip.Club
So now (to recap) I have three domains:
VegasStripClub.com
Zsophia.Club
ZsophiaStrip.Club
My default thinking is to brand the site "Zsophia" ... host the site at "VegasStripClub.com" ... and point the other two domains to VegasStripClub.com
My thinking being ... reap the benefits of the strong generic domain name ... but give it a better branding.
But ... before I pick the main domain where the site will (actually) be located ... I figured I'd throw it out on the forum ... and see what you think.
Should I host it at Vegas Strip Club.com ...?
Or host the site at one of the other two domains ...?
P.S. I know some of you will say "Pick a suitable easy-to-remember name where the .com is available" ... but for sake of this example ... let's assume that option is not on the table.
