Have you ever thought of a good business plan and then later see it from someone else making a lot of money off the idea.
a few years back, i thought of the company redbox. its the movie vending machines that cost $1 a night to rent.
i was in high school working at hollywood video and was getting annoyed at customers who didnt put movies back where they found it. it took a ridiculous amount of labor hours from the employees to reorganize it. it also screwed up our inventory and made it impossibly hard for other customers to find movies they were looking for.
i then thought instead of customers going to movies and rearranging them, what if movies came to them. i was thinking of drycleaners where everything was labeled on a rack that just rotated. the guy enters your name, finds what you need, presses a button, then boom... you have your stuff.
what if i created an atm machine like business for movies. it would eliminate the need to hire 3-6 employees to run counters, organize movies, possibly steal/lose money, have a large amount of loss, etc, etc. this is automation!all you need is a guy to update movies every tuesday when they come out.
well i was going to school and lost track of stuff with my busy schedule. soon enough i see this mysterious box in front of the 7-11 down the street. all of a sudden, they are in wal-mart, gas stations, and supermarkets.
DAMN!
that could have been me.
this just motivates me to act upon ideas from now on. i'm pretty sure thats not the only good idea i will ever have in my life.
anyone else have an idea that got used before you like this?
