I started a coffee company.
What makes my coffee company different?
It’s targets a certain group of people and donates 30% (with to goal of eventually getting it up to 50%) of profits to a cause this group of people support.
I’m also a member of this group so I understand my customer base very well.
Within the last couple weeks I have:
My next steps are to launch a crowdfunding campaign. Everyone I’ve shown my coffee to so far in my target market has loved the idea of it and many of them have offered to preorder it.
To generate buzz about the kickstarter I am going to be contacting microinfluencers and anyone with influence in my niche and offer to make them “VIP brand ambassadors” and explain the mission and how they would be a vital importance in accomplishing the mission. Also all VIPs get a free bag of coffee (maybe more) on launch and entitled to wholesale prices for the first year.
As for the donations: I’m still working on specifics but I’m thinking of having four tiers:
$10: You are a vital supporter of the cause. Thank you!
$25: A bag of coffee upon launch.
$100: Five bags of coffee upon launch and access to our exclusive “Plank Members” Facebook community.
$1500: We will make a limited edition custom blend and bag design featuring your name and likeness and you will be featured on our website and get a hand written note from the founder.

- Developed the name
- Registered multiple URLs related to my brand
- Write out a brand statement that tells about us and the mission of my coffee company
- Designed the logo
- Came up with a quick marketing plan
- Made a mock-up and showed it to some people and asked if they would buy it. They said yes.
- Made a simple landing page website
- Researched what it takes to sell on Amazon
- Reached out to some coffee suppliers (still an ongoing process)
- Sent some emails to people asking if they would rent me their food trailer when not in use so I can sell coffee from it at certain events related to the brand.
