Years ago, when I read Fastlane, I missed my opportunity to register here. Now, at 29 years old, I remembered about MJ, went through Unscripted , and I didn't even hesitate to pay a yearly fee.
I appreciate all of you who contributed to keeping this forum alive. I'm thrilled about being here.
To the point...
For the last 4 years, I worked in corporate (a remote, 'comfy' job), and, having finished my Master's Degree in English Philology, I was teaching English in the meantime — absolutely oblivious to how limiting my lifestyle was and how narrow-minded I had let myself become at the time.
I started noticing how soul-draining and repulsive the 9-5 had become every time I had to deal with people with their brains washed by the corporate mannerisms, numbed by their comfortable remote jobs. Back when I used to be engaged in 'developing' within the corporate, I was asked to compile a self-development plan — it was then that I noticed I felt absolutely no urge to keep doing that.
I used to work with people who literally counted days until Friday, with smiles on their faces.
I used to work with people who had been there for 10 years, tied to their mortgage and hoping not to be the next victim of layoffs, just to be replaced by cheaper workforce.
I used to be supervised by a leader who literally could not comprehend how I could tell her that I felt absolutely no urge to 'improve' in an environment where I was just a number, not a person, being overseen by an AI 'tool' which measured every second of our work and raising alarms when we 'wasted' too much time.
I used to — until I quit this month.
And that's why I am here.
Currently, I have already elevated my 'side-hustle,' which was teaching English, to the point of a business and the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey.
I have too many clients to handle them all (yes - the business seem not to currently meet the criteria of time, which MJ mentions, but I'm working on it), since I already had the local renown of being one of the best English tutors in my city.
I studied Unscripted to make sure this can actually meet the criteria of a worthy business, and although I still need to clarify some things (this is why I am here), I can actually say that right now, writing this, I have ALREADY managed to make 2x my corporate salary from teaching English. I do not speculate or brag about 'having a plan' — I already implemented these things, and I truly hope that, with a student mindset, I can keep growing with you. Since, when it comes to being an entrepreneur and managing the money - I am a complete rookie. But that's how it works, isn't it?
