Gold and Silver aren't the only Valuable Collections

Hey guys,
I just read a couple of post from these forms about investing in gold and silver. I do understand how gold and silver can be valuable assets but I have found a couple of other things that are worth a pretty penny, too!

Speaking of penny, coin-collecting is one of these collections that's worth a bit. For example, my grandfather sends me coins ALL the time, and I truly LOVE collecting coins. He has sent me the $1 President Un-circulated coins to VDB Pennies. He recently sent me a 1909 VDB Lincoln penny with the Wheat Symbol on the back. It is in relatively good condition so I looked up its value. I found out that I could sell it anywhere from $500-$1500! I couldn't believe it!

There are a lot of valued collections out there and I want to read some of the collections you may have! I'd love to hear what kinds of interesting items you have!

Thanks everyone! Desert_NM

Don't mean to burst your bubble, but it sounds like you have a 1909 VDB and the pricing you mention is for an S VDB. Of course, I could be wrong, but see if it's an S VDB, that's the valuable one. The S would be right under the date on the front. If it's an S VDB, Congratulations!!

Thanks for the catch, that's what I forgot to mention. It is an S VDB and I am grateful you said that. My other VDB does not have the S but is still in good condition! :eusa_clap:

Nice!! I bought a 1909 S VDB for $225 from a local coin shop about 20 years ago. I sold it on Ebay about 5 years ago, but I can't remember what I got for it. My was in the lowest possible graded condition, but it was all I could afford back when I was younger.

i wouldn't collect coins for an investment as an alternative to gold, because i personally believe that the price is speculative in nature. yes, even the price of gold and silver may be speculative, but those metals are recognized world wide. if all hell breaks lose and you end up in china or german or south africa, they will take your gold and silver, but they people there won't give a heck about your rare american penny.

That's not the point of this post, it got off topic a bit. :eek:fftopic:

The point is, there are other valuable collections out there that I want people to share because gold and silver are always talked about. I am just interested in what kinds of collections people may have.

I collect autographs and casino memorabilia.

It's kind of like flipping houses, because once you take a few pieces of memorabilia and have them mounted in a nice frame, or put together in a project somehow -- you can double, triple, or quadruple the value of said items.

I especially like to collect items from the old (Now blown up) Sands casino in Las Vegas. Rare casino chips, dealer name tags, matchbooks, coffee cups, ash trays, dice, playing cards, etc... One of my prized possessions is a marble box they gave out during one of their golf tournaments, which is extremely rare. I also have a special show menu from the infamous copa room, signed by Sammy Davis Jr. when he was performing there.

Cheers,

- Hakrjak

it's posted under the general business discussion, so if you are talking about "valuable collections", then i couldn't help but look at it as in investment. as something that you will one day like to sell, and make a profit. when investing money in something, i look at the exit plan on how to get my money back. if collecting for sentimental reason, then that's on you. but you mentioned gold and silver, so i take it that you are approaching coin collection as in investment. :) the idea of buying gold and silver is to hedge your other investments. a coin collection wouldn't do that. but what do i know. carry on. sorry for being off topic. :) :eek:fftopic:

What about my Web of Spider #1!!! I think it's still at my mom's house in a box along with my Topps Mark McQuire rookie card.
