Hello Fastlane community,
My name is Amon Hanshaw (pronounced AY-MEN) and I am 18 years old.
All my life I had this sneaking suspicion, like many of you, that there absolutely had to be more. From a young age, I was surrounded by slowlane. My mother had always wanted me to grow up and be a doctor. This stems from my brother being very sick with a terminal illness. I learned as I grew older of the impact that one individual doctor could have on a family (my heart goes out to medical professionals.)
When I was 16 years old I began working at a local pizza shop, but it wasn't just any old mom and pop store. They were pumping out about 600 orders on a "slow" night, doing about 10k in revenue every day. I'd watch as cash ebb and flowed out of the register and this really had me thinking about a bigger picture. I worked harder and harder every day to get noticed by the owner of the company and (suprisingly) it worked.
He knew and I knew that my drive was vastly different than the others. He told me that with certain people, you can see it in their eyes. I was done making pizza if I didn't own it.
I have recently started attending a quite prestigious university, which I will be leaving indefinitely at the end of the semester. After spending the past 3-4 months practically inhaling any material I could get my hands on (Greene, TMF , Felix Dennis, B&D, Hill, Tim Ferriss), now it is time to take action.
And despite all the hours spent staying up until 3 a.m. just to wake up and continue reading and plotting, I've never felt more lost. I'm not exactly sure how, but I plan on retiring my mother in the next few years, ensuring that she never has to work again. She's spent a dreaded amount of time in and out of the hospital with my brother and that's what drives me. I have an unshakable belief that it can be done. And I'll be the one to do it -- whatever the cost.
I just purchased my 24 hour, 3 layover flight path to Chaing Mai, Thailand that leaves in the beginning of January. I'm going where the talent is.
Cheers to all, and thank you MJ (and forum members) for showing me the light and giving me the opportunity to be great.
