Hi everyone,
I'm a 20 year old half Swede half Englishman currently living in Sweden.
Ever since I was a child I've been a money hungry little shit, I mostly liked having money and not necessarily spending it.
It felt good to look at, and to know I had it. Even as a child money for me represented freedom.
I come from a middle class family and for most of my childhood money was pretty scarce. I quickly learned that if I wanted money I'd have to earn it and not ask my parents for it.
When I was 14 I got a part time job in telemarketing selling terrible newspaper subscriptions and memberships for useless organisations - and I LOVED IT!
I was making commission on all my sales and had more money than the rich kids at my school, nice!
Fast forward to the age of 16 and I dropped out of high school. Yup, a high school dropout!
The logic then was that I didn't see how what I was learning could apply to my own life, and at the same time school was taking up lots of valuable time.
So anyway, after I dropped out I did a couple of other sales jobs and eventually ended up in sales position at a financial institution. I worked my way up until I was in charge of the newly started cash collections team at the company.
At this point I was working 12.5 hours a day and making the SEK equivalent of 4300 USD a month.
Making that amount of money as an 18/19 year old high school drop out felt pretty good. I managed to save up quite a bit of cash and after a while I decided to leave the company and start my own business, believe it or not I wanted to make even more money.
For some reason after I quit my job I went into a state of analysis paralysis regarding my own business. This resulted in nothing getting done for several months and all my savings getting spent on basic living costs.
Lucky for me, I remembered reading a book when I was 18. The books was The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco. I recall finding it intriguing but I didn't take it all in at the time, I wasn't receptacle to the knowledge inside it.
However, now things had changed. I was starting my business but not getting anything done. I read the book again and this time it really got to me.
It put me back into action mode.
Fast forward to present day and I'm running my own business doing web design (I use to make websites as a hobby and did a couple of small web design jobs around 17).
I'm not making the same amount of money as I did employed but I'm getting there. I've become quite proficient in web design at this point which I'm sure will beneficial in my future and current endeavours.
I'm currently in the stage of trying out new ideas and projects for my business while still doing a bunch of web design jobs for different clients. I'm also rereading TMF, which caused me to start getting active on the forum.
Exactly what I plan to do in the future I'll save for another post.
I hope you enjoyed my introduction/entire life story and didn't think it was too long. I also hope that you've gotten a slight idea of who I am.
Oh and by the way my name is Richard.
I look forward to getting to know you all!
P.S. Thank you MJ for the masterpiece you call a book. It's having a huge impact on my life.
