Hello all,
I am founding a food startup in Germany. It is a functional/healty snack bar with 100% natural ingredients.
Among dates, nuts and berries, it contains dried beef liver.
It is the first bar in Germany that contains any meat products. Benefits include a healthy time-saving snack option that has all the benefits of liver without the intense taste of liver.
Now, to my Sourcing Situation:
I have contacted about 25 white label snack producers in central Europe, many did not reply. The ones I received a reply from were telling me they would not consider working with beef liver, and never did so.
One potential producer told me they would consider it with a Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) of 20.000 bars.
I assume that I could not pull that off bootstrapping the project, alongside my day job (40h) and a starting capital of 5k Euro (including cost of setting up the UG/LLC).
I have started validating the idea via Instagram, but I have no huge follower base yet.
Now I have found an interesting potential supplier in Eastern Europe, with whom I will have a video call on Wednesday. This supplier is producing beef jerky, and it seems like he has no experience with dried fruits.
I hope that he would be happy with a MOQ of 2000-3000 bars (100-150 Kg), approx 2500-3500 Euro worth of product.
I would appreciate any thoughts on this, but specifically:
- the MOQ,
-thoughts on my sourcing strategy
-tipps for the meeting with the supplier
Thanks a lot, and I wish you all a great and successful week ahead!
Best,
Tobi
