Unfortunately since this is a entrepreneurship forum, I can only recommend that you start your own thing.
The best path for you would probably be to stay where you are now and start working on a business on the side that will generate enough income so that you don't depend on an employer in the future.
Since you seem to have lots of sales experience, you should be able to start selling something else on your own time and that means you will eventually reap your own rewards instead of relying on an uncertain comp plan that could be taken away from you at any point in time.
I am sorry you are in this situation but it's never too late to start over.
