I read TMF this spring and am new to the forum!

I'm 22, got one more year in college before I graduate (applied math). I want to have FREEDOM in my life to pursue what interests me - that's my fastlane "why."

Right now I don't have a business plan. I worked last summer for a fastlaner - he started a software company shortly after college that was an industry leader. Since then, he has built several others companies to good success. He clearly loves life!

His companies don't employ many people and have a "flat" structure - titles, degrees don't mean shit. Only good ideas win. If an intern had a better idea than he did, he'd implement it. Because of the company's small size and flat structure, I met with him everyday and was exposed to nearly all of what he did and how the business ran. He also loved teaching me.

I plan to turn our relationship into a mentorship, and I could easily go work for him again (now with more learning and trust)

I am skilled in software development (especially mobile apps) and am thinking about cracking into that business. But I am by no means certain about my fastlane road.

My question boils down to:
Is it worth working for a fastlaner mentor for a short while to get learning on steroids. I know from TMF that MJ worked for a limo company to learn the ropes before starting limos.
Or would it be smarter to hit the ground running on my own?
