So, I'm going through the book Ca$hvertising, which is an MJ recommended read in the area of marketing/advertising. As I was going through the book, I began to think, "What is it I like so much about The Millionaire Fastlane and UNSCRIPTED ?" There's something about the books beyond the utility of the book itself, the utility being that it teaches people how to have more freedom and autonomy and not be a time-slave. Something endears me to these books. Then the answer arose: It's the fact that MJ uses tons of personal examples from his own life. It's this mental framework that there's a real person behind the book, and that real person cares about communicating the information in the book in such a way that will help ME (remember, customers don't care about you or how how cool your logo is, they care about themselves).
There seems to be something special about combining an awesome product with a sense of knowing the personality behind the product, and that the personality behind the product cares about your success.
Take the book Blue Ocean Strategy, for example. Awesome marketing book. At least, I think so. Highly valuable information. But it reads like a textbook, and there's little sense of a personality behind the information in the book. I see it as a helpful resource, yes, but I'm not endeared to Blue Ocean Strategy like I am the UNSCRIPTED framework. ...just something I've been thinking about.
