eBook Formatting Question about Amazon KDP

Question for those of you who have published an eBook using Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP):

Did you have trouble keeping any type of formatting? It seems that I can set the format in a Word doc and then as soon as KDP uploads the manuscript, things that were once centered are now all the way to the right (or left) and spacing is removed. It makes the book look pretty sloppy.

How have you resolved this formatting issue?

I have not because I have a Mac and use Pages, but it should help if you're using Word.
