But please explain, how does having more people watching an item help?

I'm guessing that anyone viewing may get a little more fired up to bid as they see how popular it is?
I have Googled this and not found an answer.

Yes, It shows activity. If enough are watching, it displays an on fire icon in the search results. It "might" also help with ranking, I'm not sure.

Looks like top bidder has 738 feedbacks. That is good because sometimes people without feedback win your auctions and do not pay, but this guy seems like he will pay if he wins. Were you not expecting this item to be worth 2.5k+?

Yes, the leader is a dealer and knows what this stuff is worth.

The guy that bid him up has zero feedback. I canceled his bids and blocked him. Just to be fair and safe. I have no intention to sell to a zero feedback buyer.

At least now I know that the dealer is willing to go to $2550. We'll see how this ends.

That whole fiasco might have killed my auction.
If anyone saw the bid go to $2550, they might not bother to try now.
Or, if they saw it go to $2550 and back to $445 they might be wondering what happened.
Oh well.
