Domain registrar issue

Hey has anyone here ever have a domain registrar hold your domain hostage? I have a client wanting to use a domain of theirs for a new website, and their hosting company/registrar just gives an error when you try to access the domain manager. Cannot access the domain in any way, and there is no response from support for over two weeks, even after multiple attempts to contact them.

Is there any way around them? It's completely ridiculous to not be able to manage your domain. I've never had that happen before. Any insight is much appreciated.
